The Pantone Color Institute declared the color Ultra Violet as the color of the year 2018. Quite a surprise for me. Although I like purple it is a really heavy color. What are we supposed to do now? Paint all our walls purple? Wear purple clothes and finger nails all the time? I guess, we won’t. So, why would they chose ultra violet?
“We are living in a time that requires inventiveness and imagination. It is this kind of creative inspiration that is indigenous to Ultra Violet, a blue-based purple that takes our awareness and potential to a higher level. From exploring new technologies and the greater galaxy, to artistic expression and spiritual reflection, intuitive Ultra Violet lights the way to what is yet to come.”
Leatrice Eiseman, Executive Director of the Pantone Color Institute
Ok, challenge accepted. Let’s explore purple. Since December I received some newsletters from the art sites I sell my illustrations on, proposing to post new art with this color of the year. Since then I tried several things in purple but I didn’t like them. So I edited one illustration I was already preparing for sale to have a little accent in Ultra Violet. Ultra violet in my illustrations
If you already have a purple wall, then purple art would be a little too much. Chose art that gives contrast. Interesting colors that pair with purple are light blue, berry red, and yellow. For example my black LINGERIE or ELEGANCE illustration look super cool on a purple background. And metallic frames add more elegance to it.
Finally I decided to experiment a little bit more with this color during the next weeks. But, I am already looking forward to next years color of the year! How about you? Do you like this color? How do you use it? I am looking forward to your comments! And if you would like to browse all my art prints just visit my shop!
